to quote someone else: Tim Kizziar (our greatest fear)

"Our greatest fear as individuals and as a church should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter."

taken from Crazy Love by Francis Chan

What is it that you are trying to succeed in? Will that success ultimately matter? If not, maybe your focus needs to change.

I know some of mine does.

  1. hmmm. That is a really interesting idea, that what we might define as "success" (# of students, bigger budget, recognition) is actually a failure if we achieve it at the cost of what really matters (salvation, moving students towards Christ).

This poses another thought: this fear of "failure" in the quote may actually be "failure" in these areas that don't matter. Example: My biggest "fear" is that I don't get enough students to an event.

  2. @brandon great thought. This might be the thing that keeps a lot of ministers from doing the "important" things. Even if the fear of failure is coming from someone else who measures your success on those criteria.
